BYD Frigate 07 Debuts at Chengdu Motor Show
On August 26, BYD’s new medium-sized SUV Frigate 07 debuted at the 2022 Chengdu Motor Show and opened for pre-sale. Equipped with swirl-shaped taillights, the new model adopts a brand-new marine aesthetic design concept. It also has two power structures, including DM-i and DM-p, with a pure electric battery life of 100 km/200 km. It is equipped with EHS electric hybrid system and a super hybrid special power blade battery. The price of the model ranges from 220,000 yuan ($32,067) to 280,000 yuan ($40,812). It will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
In terms of size, the length, width, and height of the new car is 4820/1920/1750mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2820mm. Compared with its sister model, the BYD Tang, the length of the new car is shortened by 50mm, the width is shortened by 20mm, and the height is increased by 30mm. In terms of the wheelbase, the two models are exactly the same, measuring at 2820mm.
As the second model of BYD’s warship series, the BYD Frigate 07 adopts a brand-new design. Its front adopts the design style of “marine aesthetics.” Its front face has a wide-mouth-shaped air intake grille, and both sides of the grille are equipped with dot matrix luminous units, making the front more fashionable. At the same time, the front headlights of BYD Frigate 07 are very recognizable because of their slender shape and the illuminated logo in the middle.
The side of the BYD Frigate 07 is designed in a tough style, with a straight waistline extending from the headlights to the rear taillights. It is matched with wide-body wheel arch lines and hidden door handles, giving it a muscular and sporty look. At the same time, the car further creates a fashionable and dynamic stance with a slightly sloping roof and a chrome-plated decorative strip on the window frame.
At the rear of the car, the BYD Frigate 07 adopts a two-stage spoiler with a high-mounted brake light in the middle. The taillights adopt a design similar to the BYD Han, which is officially called the “swirl-shaped taillights.”

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with the DM-i plug-in hybrid system. The maximum power of the 1.5t engine is 102kW, with the peak power of the front and rear motor able to reach 145kW/150kW, all of which is powered by an iron phosphate blade battery. The estimated pure electric cruising range is 200 km. In addition, the Frigate 07 will also launch a DM-P model with the main power performance, which has dual front and rear motors with a maximum power of 295kw, peak torque of 656 Nm, and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.7 seconds.
In other aspects, the new car will be equipped with the DiLink 4.0 (5G) intelligent and connected vehicle system, HUD (head-up display), facial recognition functions and more.
