We will see some breweries in China go under but overall I think the signs for 2021 and beyond look good. I wrote and article about two Chinese craft breweries that are doing well after the lockdown by changing a few things:

BTS and Blackpink have found fame internationally, while Rocket Girls, Nine Percent have found fame in China only but China has 1.4 billion people. From Baidu popularity score bts and blackpink have few fans in China. I doubt Bts or blackpink have more than 700m fans worldwide.

Sure idol groups in China is a failure because the market is still inmature and fans are more focus on individuals and not groups. But biggest problem is contracts with existing conpanies thus they can’t last more than 2 years. Exception is TfBoys, TfBoys is definitely successful.

What’s most important for the companies and individual idol is individual fame and wealth, on that count they have succeeded. Even the USA or Europe or Japan or India have no famous idol groups as famous as bts or blackpink.

As KJ Noh pointed out, the entire Wuhan region was cordoned for sixty days and movement was restricted. Only those who had been diagnosed with the virus were quarantined, while each city or apartment complex ‘siloed’ by designating a neighborhood park in which residents were free to move, restricting the risk of contagion to small, isolable units. Leaving and entering the neighborhood was restricted to three times a week and infrared scanners checked every movement. This limited the number of people interacting, further reducing risk.

I do not believe much can be accomplished by looking at ‘individual’ data, we know that materially, the individual doesnt really exist, and is certainly a pretty poor model and starting point for trying to deal with the enormous complexity of the data mining and other ways in which surplus profits are extracted from users. Particularly with digital technology, the individual is subsumed within productive relations, those relations themselves need to be reconfigured, not how the individual interfaces with them.

Just a point to make regarding the article. The US and UK governments and law enforcement agencies also have a backdoor to all data created by users in their countries, it is just less explicit and hidden from public knowledge. ‘Under the law in China, the government has backdoor access to all user account information on servers in China. In practice, this means that the Chinese security services can access any account at any time. US companies like Google and Facebook have balked at complying with this request, which is why they do not operate in China.’ They are quite happy to comply with the governments in the US / UK and EU holding their data – as the article states, it’s a good thing that they balk at these laws anyway. But there is no argument for replicating the kind of freedom to exploit that these companies have. It is uneccessary, these companies, do not, after all, innovate any of the technologies they use, they nearly entirely run on open source software and buy out disruptive companies to stop competition. The history of the development of the internet is a clear model that there is no freedom in the free market, all innovation comes from the commons, and that innovation is curbed when it is captured into private ownership.
