Tencent and Ubisoft Jointly Developing New Games
Tom Henderson, a well-known video game tipster, said on Friday that Ubisoft, an internationally renowned gaming company, will announce a new mobile game on April 6, which may be the mobile version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
Earlier, rumors circulated that the mobile version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege would be jointly developed by Ubisoft and Tencent Games. Siege is an entry in the well-known Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series, which was first launched in November 2015 and has enjoyed great success since then. Ubisoft said in December 2020 that this series has more than 70 million players across all platforms.
At a conference call for Tencent‘s annual report this week, the firm’s management revealed plans for a cooperation project with Ubisoft in 2023, which may mean that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege mobile will be officially launched to the market in 2023.
The two firms have collaborated in a similar fashion before. In July, 2021, Tencent Games reached a strategic cooperation with Ubisoft, obtaining exclusive agency for The Division 2 in China, which will land on the WeGame platform in the future.
The background of the cooperation between the two companies is that Ubisoft chose to sell a 5% stake to Tencent in 2018 to avoid an acquisition from Vivendi SE Group.
Ubisoft owns many high-quality video game masterpieces, including The Division 2, the Assassin’s Creed series, the Rainbow Six series, the Watch Dogs series and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, which are all well-known IPs among video game players.
Tom Henderson also revealed that Ubisoft is preparing at least two mobile games, both of which are the core IP of Ubisoft, and one of them may be the mobile version of Assassin’s Creed. Previously, some insiders broke the news that Tencent would be working closely with Ubisoft over the coming years to bring more of its copyrighted products to the mobile market, with both a new Assassin’s Creed title and The Division title also in development for mobile.
According to Tencent‘s 2021 annual performance report, game revenue within the international market reached 45.5 billion yuan ($7.1 billion) during the period, a year-on-year increase of 31%.
