Musk Congratulates Shanghai Gigafactory’s Production of 1M Vehicles

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on August 15, “Congrats Giga Shanghai on making millionth car! Total Teslas made now over 3M.”

Before Musk celebrated this milestone, the company said in July that it had delivered 254,695 vehicles in the second quarter of 2022, up 26.5% year-on-year. The upgraded Shanghai Gigafactory now has a production capacity of over 750,000 units, making it the firm’s largest Gigafactory in the world.

In addition to the Shanghai Gigafactory, Tesla also has plants in Fremont, California, Austin, Texas, and suburban Berlin. Musk said in July that the firm’s Fremont plant is its first to have already produced 2 million vehicles.

At a previous Tesla shareholder meeting held this month, Musk said that its global production capacity is expected to reach 2 million vehicles this year. He also said that the company will eventually have 10 to 12 Gigafactories globally with a total production capacity of 20 million units.

The firm’s financial report showed that Tesla’s revenue in the second quarter of this year was $16.934 billion, an increase of 42% compared with $11.958 billion in the same period last year, while its net profit was $2.269 billion, compared with last year’s $1.178 billion.

In China, Tesla owners used the company’s charging network for more than 2.8 billion km in the first half of this year, up 61% year-on-year. By the first half of 2022, the firm has built more than 1,200 super-charging stations and more than 700 destination charging stations on the Chinese mainland, covering more than 370 cities and regions.
