Honor May Soon Announce Google GMS Support

On August 17th, according to a post by Digital Chat Station，a Weibo blogger, it was revealed that Honor has finally ‘resolved’ the issue with GMS (Google Mobile Services), and an official announcement is expected to be made ‘after some time.’

Some netizens in the comment section of Weibo asked whether this means that Honor phones will not return to HarmonyOS, and received a positive response from Digital Chat Station: ‘Yes, it will be bound to Android.’ If this is true, it would mean that Honor’s domestic mobile business will once again support GMS services.

On October 11, 2021, Honor announced through its official Twitter account that it has resumed cooperation with Google. The overseas models of the new Honor 50 series will also come pre-installed with Google Mobile Services (GMS).

Google Mobile Services (GMS) is the main difference between AOSP and Android. When a device runs a system compatible with Android and obtains Google authorization, it can use GMS services (including Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Chrome, Google Play, etc.). This is of great significance to the overseas Android ecosystem.

Furthermore, an Indian digital blogger recently claimed that Honor is expected to launch the Honor 90 smartphone in India in September. HONOR Tech’s official Twitter account recently posted a message announcing that they will bring new updates for the Indian market. Subsequently, Madhav Sheth, former CEO of realme India, retweeted this post and confirmed joining Honor.

In the latest tweet, Madhav Sheth announced that ‘Honor smartphones will be launched soon in India,’ confirming Honor’s return to the Indian smartphone market.

It should be noted that Honor’s new products in the Indian market have remained stagnant since 2020, and there has been no release of any new smartphones in the country since then. Although Honor has not officially announced its withdrawal from the Indian market, it is evident that they have ceased aggressive expansion.
